easy peasy christmas decorations

I want to show you to of my easiest and favorite decorations I made this year.  So simple and I just LOVE them!

First are my yarn trees.  I actually bought two styrofoam trees last year with the hope of putting ruffles around them.  Cute idea, right?  Well, I couldn't get mine to look right at all.  Of course when I finished my yarn trees I found that Lindsey (she's got a great name!) at The Pleated Poppy did some fabric wrapped trees that are adorable.  Scroll down a bit to find them on her mantle.

I still love my yarn trees though.  I simply glued down the end of a real nubby yarn at the base of the tree and started carefully wrapping the yarn, gluing every so often.  At the top I just kinda wound it around until it looked nice before gluing it.  If you're using a colored yarn, you might want to paint the styrofoam first.   See that little glittery church?  I saw it first at Thrify Decor Chick and simply had to stop by the Wal-mart and pick one up.  And I hate the Wal-mart, but a $1 for a cute little church was worth it. :)

Second, is this to die for feather wreath.  Cuteness, right?  Well, maybe some of y'all don't like it, but that's okay. :)  I took a simple green styrofoam wreath and spray painted it white.  I took two packages of feather boas and wrapped my wreath.  Three would have been a better length, but I couldn't find cheap feather boas so I worked with just two.  I then just pinned a pretty polka dot ribbon to the back and there ya' go.  I simply love it so much, I just might keep it year round.

I can't get a good shot of the lovely thing as seen from afar!  The room has become quite dark and all pictures simply do NOT do her justice.   So, just enjoy a good closeup of her feathery goodness!

The kids are being taken care of just wonderfully  by their Mamaw and Papaw for a few days while I had planned on doing major yard work.  Somehow I missed the weather report that it was going to be cold, wet and dreary.  :(  Lucky for me I also had a couple of crafty projects up my sleeve.

First, let me say I love my laundry room.  I hate laundry but I love the room.  I saw somewhere while I was perusing home decor blogs a cute laundry room with the word WET on the wall.  I thought it was precious and opted to put the word WASH on mine.  The letters are so stinking cute!  I got them at AC Moore.  They came finished white and I luckily still had some hot pink paint left in the garage.  So happy!

Next I decided to repaint this little hutch that had been in my dining room up until a few months ago when I put it in the garage because it just wasn't working for me.  You can see it here in this post.  See what I mean, just not quite what I want.  I started to paint it the prettiest color yellow named Oyster Bisque.  And I started painting and it started to look like it belonged in a baby's room!  I was so mad and frustrated with the thing.  I kept painting it hoping I would like the color, but no.  To make matters worse I had decided to brush the paint on knowing a spray paint would look better with the spindle legs and all and the paint was not looking smooth at all.  So I headed on to the store which is sooo much easier when they are no children to pack up, bless their hearts.   I stood in the evil Walmart aisle forever trying to decide between Celery green or Yellow Bright Idea spray paint when I had a bright idea all of my own!  I happened to look down and what did I see draped around my neck:

It was my favorite scarf ever with the Celery green of the paint can and the Asparagus green of my dining room!  My decision was made and I'm tickled pink with it!

Yes, yes I need a knob and more gee gaw to place on it, give me time!  :)  

Notice the little daisy bowl at the top?  I just got it a few days ago from a thrift store they try pass off as an antique store and I love it.  Just love it.

Crayon Ice Cubes

Finally, I delved into the world of melted crayons!  It seems like everyone has done this craft with their kids, except me.   Instead of using candy molds, I used an old ice cube tray from my baby food making days.   We filled the holes with broken crayons and I popped that thing right into the 300 degree oven.  I had my fingers crossed the whole time that the tray wouldn't melt right along with the crayons!  Luckily, it didn't or there would have been a HUGE mess to clean up and this post would be quite a bit different.    I think they turned out cute as can be and they are the perfect size for little hands.  Now, go make some!

I was so crafty this weekend

I'm so proud of myself!  Not only did I start some crafts, I completed them, which is a big major GINORMOUS accomplishment for me.  First up I whipped up some super cute decorative balls out of styrofoam.              














For the fabric ball, I simply tore strips of fabric into 1 inch wide swaths and crisscrossed it around, hot gluing the ends.   The large balls are simply jute coiled around and glued every so often.  I made the seed ball by gluing black beans all around and then spray painted the whole thing black.  I love how they turned out and they look so stinking cute in my metal bird cage!

The second project was to make table topper for the dresser in my dining room.  (Yes, I have a dresser in my dining room.  It's great for storage, so there.)  I had a small remnant of white linen that was just simply begging to be used.  I attached some pretty black print to each side and embroidered a simple swirl in the middle.  This makes me SO HAPPY!

You may ask, "why?!"

What do you get when you combine a season of Intervention....
have you seen that show? My husband and I are addicted to it! The new show "Hoarders," is incredible. If it doesn't make you want to jump right up and clean out your hall closet, I don't know what will.

You know you're loving them, too. I came across the fabric at Joanns and KNEW I had to pick it up. I'm a lover of polka dots and whenever I find a GOOD polka dot fabric, I have to get it. I made a simple envelope pillow because with children you need to be able to wash it. Think spit up, dirty hands, and spilled bottles of milk.

I then simply appliqued an H to the front for a little something, something.
